Along with recent updates, the Gemini app on Android now allows you to start Google Assistant Routines.
Before, since the launch in February, you couldn’t use Gemini to trigger Routines on Android. Shortcuts for Routines and those linked to alarms in the Clock app didn’t work.
Now, you can say “start [routine]” and Google Assistant will activate the Routine within the Gemini app. However, typing to start a Routine still doesn’t work. Also, Google mentions that not all actions or starters are supported when using Routines with Gemini.
If an action isn’t supported, Gemini will just skip it. Some of the things that aren’t supported include:
- Starters: Starting Routines by typing commands, at specific times like sunrise or sunset, at certain locations, or through home screen shortcuts.
- Actions: Playing music, radio, or podcasts; sharing fitness and sleep data; or sharing poems and quotes.
You can check if Routines are working by going to Gemini Settings, then Google Assistant features, and looking under Routines at the bottom.
Currently, Interpreter mode and Media service providers (like podcasts, news, and third-party music) are still not supported in Gemini.
